COMPOSITION:
Erythromycin base ................................ 0.4 g
Excipients q.s .........................................10 g
(Hydroxypropyl cellulose, propylene glycol, doves flavor, ethanol 96%).
DOSAGE FORM: Dermal gel.
PRESENTATION: Box of 1 tube x 10 g.
PHARMACODYNAMICS: Medskin Ery contains the active ingredient erythromycin which is a macrolide antibiotic; it inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. Following local application to the skin, the drug inhibits the growth of susceptible bacteria and reduces the concentration of free fatty acids in sebum. These free fatty acids are irritants and are believed to cause acne.
PHARMACOKINETICS: Medskin Ery has local actions.
INDICATIONS: Local treatment of acne, furuncle, inflammatory pustules.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to any components of the drug.
PRECAUTIONS: Avoid contact with eyes, noses, mouth, mucosa, and open wounds. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION: Erythromycin should be used with cautions in pregnant women and nursing mothers because its safety has not been established when using local application.
EFFECTS ON ABILITY TO DRIVE AND USE MACHINES:
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery.
INTERACTIONS: Concurrent use with alcohol-containing cosmetics may also cause irritations or xeroderma. Use with cautions in patients concomitantly using with other local anti-acne drugs; especially those containing peeling, desquamating or abrasive agents. It is unadvised to apply dermal preparations containing erythromycin and clindamycin concomitantly because of possibly competitive binding for the 50S-ribosome subunits.
ADVERSE EFFECTS: A feeling of xeroderma may occur at the beginning of treatment. Mild acanthesthesia (maybe caused by alcohol excipients not by erythromycin) is reported.
Inform your physician about any adverse effects occur during the treatment.
OVERDOSAGE: No cases of Medskin Ery overdosage have been reported.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION: A thin layer of gel should be applied to the cleansed affected areas twice daily.
As a rule, an 8-week treatment period will be necessary, but in instances of recurrence, the therapy period may be prolonged further.
