COMPOSITION: For 1 bottle of 100 ml
Alimemazine tartrate ..................................................................................... 50 mg
Excipients ...q.s............................................................................................ 100 ml
(Nipagin, citric acid monohydrate, refined sugar, ethanol 96%, flavor, distilled water).
DOSAGE FORM: syrup.
PRESENTATION: Box of 1 bottle x 100 ml of syrup.
ACTIONS: Alimemazine is a phenothiazine derivative, strongly antihistamine and antiserotonin. It is effective in the treatment of urticaria, pruritus and cough. Alimemazine is also a tranquilizer, antiemetic agent. Alimemazine is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after 15 - 20 minutes of oral administration. The drug has a sustained effect for 6 - 8 hours.
INDICATIONS: Treatment of:
- Respiratory tract allergies e.g. rhinitis, sneezing, coryza. Conjunctivitis.
- Skin itch e.g. eczeùma, prurigo, urticaria,...
- Dry cough, especially cough due to allergy and irritation, night-time cough.
- Fidgetiness, sleeplessness.
- Vomiting.
Treatment of acute alcoholic delirium (irritability).
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to alimemazine or phenothiazine derivatives. Children under 2 years of age. Pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers. Impaired hepatic and renal function, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, hypothyroidism, myasthenia, prostatauxe, a risk of urinary retention concerned with urethral disorders. A history of granulocytopenia. Narrow angle glaucoma.
PRECAUTIONS: Alimemazine may influence the skin tests with heterogenics. Drivers and machinery operators are warned the possibility of drowsiness. Alcoholic drinks and CNS inhibitors should not be used during the treatment. The dose should be reduced in the elderly because of orthostatic hypotension. Patients with angiocardiopathy.
INTERACTIONS: The drug  may enhance the effect of CNS inhibitors, anti-hypotensive agents, anticholinergics.
It  decreases  the therapeutic effect of amphetamine, levodopa, guanethidine, adrenaline, clonidine, hypoglycemic agents.
Antacids, anti-Parkinson drugs, lithium, ... prevent the absorption of alimemazine.
ADVERSE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, fatigue, slackness, headache, dizziness, dryness of mouth, dysaptation, constipation, urinary retention, accommodation disorder of the eye. Inform your physician about any adverse effects occur during the treatment.
OVERDOSAGE: Symptoms: drowsiness, loss of consciousness, hypotension, tarchycardia, changes in electrocardiogram, ventricular arrhythmia, decrease in body temperature. Extrapyramidal reactions may occur.
Treatment: carry out gastric lavage in early cases (no later than 6 hrs after being overdosed). No use the method of inducing vomiting. Activated charcoal may be useful. There is no specific antidotes.
Supportive treatment should be practiced in case of cardiovascular collapse,  arrhythmia, severe CNS inhibition.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION:
Skin itch: eczeùma, prurigo, urticaria,...
* Children over 2 years of age: 5 - 10 ml x 3 - 4 times daily.
* Adults: 20 ml x 3 - 4 times daily.
The dose should be reduced in the elderly: 20 ml x 1 - 2 times daily.
Treatment of dry cough: * Children over 2 years of age: 1 - 2 ml/ kg body-weight/ day, in many divided doses.
             * Adults: 10 - 80 ml/ day, in many divided doses.
Use as a soporific:  * Children: 0.5 - 1 ml/ kg body-weight / day, before bedtime.
       * Adults: 10 - 40 ml, before bedtime.
Or as directed by the physician.
Notes: * 1 coffee-spoon = 5 ml syrup.
         * 1 soup-spoon = 15 ml syrup.
Keep out of the reach of children.
